Hispanic/Latino Book Scholarship

La Casita Student Resource Center and the Office of Multicultural Services & Programs are sponsoring a book scholarship for Hispanic/Latino students. Two $250 book scholarships will be awarded to students of Hispanic/Latino descent. To learn more about the scholarship, please review the La Casita Scholarship Requirements below. The application can be found on The Branch.

New award recipients will be announced during the Hispanic Heritage Month Opening Ceremony to be held in September

TO APPLY go for the Hispanic/Latino Book Scholarship application please visit The Branch scholarship database. You can also access The Branch by signing into MyISU and click on The Branch box. Once you are in The Branch, search using the word Hispanic. You will be then be able to access the application.

Hispanic Heritage Month

On behalf of the Office of Multicultural Services and Programs you are cordially invited to join in sharing this special annual tribute of Hispanic and Latino American's contributions and achievements that have enriched our nation.

The National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States of America. It also commemorates the culture and heritage of the Hispanic people. This national observance begins in 1968 as a week-long, Hispanic Heritage Week, under President Lyndon Johnson. President Reagan extended it to an entire month in 1988. The Hispanic Heritage Month was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15.

The month of celebration and recognition will begin with an opening reception to be held on September 10, 2020 from 5-7pm in Hulman Memorial Student Union, Dede II.

Fun Interactive Games

Come join MSP in fun interactive games to learn about Hispanic and Latino cultures. These games will address Hispanic and Latino history while sharing commonly used Spanish words. Processing this knowledge is of great importance as the world is becoming more diverse where Hispanic and Latinos are making up the second fastest and largest growing population in the United States.

Learn about Hispanic/Latin Culture: Pista (Clue), Loteria (Bingo) & Venda (Hedbanz)

Pista (Clue) will provide an interactive way of teaching. Players about historical and iconic figures in Hispanic and Latino cultures by using detective and analytic skills in an interactive mystery game. By the end of the event, Players would have learned how to utilize reasoning and observation skills, effectively manage time, analyze and strategize. This program will address the lack of communal knowledge of Hispanic and Latino history and their contributions to the world.

Lotería is a traditional game of chance, similar to bingo, but using images on a deck of cards instead of numbered ping pong balls. Every image has a name and an assigned number, but the number is usually ignored. Enjoy yourself while you learn simple Spanish words.

 

 

 

Hedbanz, Quick Question Family Guessing Game for Kids and Adults ...Let’s play Hedbanz, the quick question game of “what am I”? You never know what you are until you start asking! Figure out if the cartoon on your head is an animal, food or object.

 

 

 

 

Hispanic/Latino Graduation Ceremony

The ceremony is an annual celebration intended to highlight the accomplishments of Hispanic/Latino students at ISU.

The ceremony will be held at the Heritage Ballroom on the campus of Indiana State University on the following dates:

Fall 2020 – TBA

– Application coming soon – Application must be completed by November 18, 2020 to receive a special graduation gift. You must register and attend to receive the gift.

Spring 2021 – TBA

– Application coming soon – Application must be completed by April 20, 2021 to receive a special graduation gift. You must register and attend to receive the gift.
